The Patient I

Image
His heart was failing him as he clutched his chest in pain. Tiny beads of sweat dropped from his dark forehead onto the bedsheet followed simultaneously by frothy saliva from his mouth. "I cannot die like this"  he mumbled. Chief Okeke must pay for his crimes. He shifted his somewhat heavy body, gasping for air with each movement.' Nurse Angela was supposed to be here, where had she gone," he wondered in frustration. His aim was to collect the small brown medicine bottle on his bedside cupboard. The label on the bottle was worn out and he could only read few inscriptions on it as the name "......dinitrate". The pain has spread to his shoulder travelling down to his arms. Mustering the last of his strength,  he reached for the bottle which was to be his only saviour and with a shocked and defeated face, he realised the bottle was empty. Nurse Angela was about reviewing the medication charts when her alarm sounded. It was time to visit her patient in...

AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Image
I jumped off my bed turning off my bed alarm clock which had been ringing endlessly. I checked the time, gosh!,its 7:35am already.Scrambling to my feet, I rushed to the bathroom to brush my teeth and take my bath. As the cold water from the shower hit me, I realized I did not bother to warm my bathing  water. This was my first day at work as a Pharmacist and am already late. I hurriedly dressed  up in 5 minutes (which usually would have taken 30-45 minutes). Ignoring my breakfast, I rushed to the hospital to attend to my patients. DRUNK IN LOVE : Could it be?

Image
By Ottih Ifunanya As I listened to Beyonce's song,   drunk in love, many questions popped into my head. What could this possibly mean?, Can one truly be drunk in love?, Is it a good or bad sign especially when it is one sided. As these questions waved through my mind, I remembered one of my friends, Efe in the University. Could she had been drunk in love? Efe had been in a relationship with Chuks for 6 years. During the first few years, their love was magical, it was like a match made in heaven. "I hope to be like you in future o", I will always tell her and she will beam with smile.Efe was madly in love with Chuks that she had to move in with him and became his 'live in lover'. Precisely 4 years later, Efe came to my room crying and looking dishevelled. My heart jumped into my stomach as I thought she was attacked by armed robbers. "What is wrong?", I asked. I am pregnant", she almost screamed. Congratulations!!! I said, heaving a sigh of relief....
